Captain Cannabis is On a Mission to Inspire and Empower the Industry
Captain Cannabis: The Cosmic Crusaders LLC
It’s time to ‘wake the funk up’, he says. Ignorance is no longer an excuse! If you take the time to educate yourself on the powers of the cannabis plant, you’ll no longer be able to deny the fact that it needs to be legalized. All this and more is from the voice of someone who is not only a fervently passionate activist, but who is also is the superhero persona, Captain Cannabis. His mission is to get his message out there and its next stop, is you!
What was the deciding factor for you to join this particular industry?
Instinct. Back in 1991, I was in my college classroom and my political science teacher was walking around the room, prompting us to draw a slip of paper from his hat; that slip of paper would dictate if we had to oppose or advocate for the given topic. Today’s topic was the legalization of cannabis and I had drawn the opposing side. Again, it wasn’t my choice; This was simply an exercise challenging us to research and write an editorial piece about a given topic despite being pro or con ourselves.
It was then that I went to listen to a pro/con legalization debate with Jack Herer speaking for the pro-side. Hearing Jack Herer speak was like hearing The Beatles for the first time or hearing that one song that just makes the hairs on your arms stand on end. His message resonated with me and I knew then that I was going to be a cannabis activist. From then on, I fully utilized my ‘gift of gab’ to support the movement.
Hearing Jack Herer speak was like hearing The Beatles for the first time or hearing that one song that just makes the hairs on your arms stand on end.
What were you doing before the green rush?
Well, since that lecture by Jack Herer, I’ve been working to create a climate that would even accommodate something like the ‘green rush’ — Myself, along with countless other activists before and running parallel to me. Back when I got into this fight, the term ‘green rush’ wasn’t even a thing.
What are you doing to impact the industry?
My mission is simple: Full legalization of the plant globally, not just in America, but all across the world. We’ve used this resource historically for the benefit of mankind and lived in harmony with nature and I want to do that again. I want to enable and empower as many people as I can reach, so that I can teach the truth, the history, and the consciousness of the plant. And that’s my slogan, THC = Truth History Consciousness.
Describe your work ethic to me in one word.
Tenacious.
Tell me about a time in your career that didn’t go as planned and what you did about that? How did you handle it?
Let’s talk about something that happened recently. I was invited out to attend an event in Colorado and it didn’t go quite as well as the party planner and myself might have hoped. It was freezing cold and sleeting rain and the turnout wasn’t as good as we had hoped. But things happen; I gave my comic book, stickers, and business card to everyone that was there and I smoked with everybody that was there who wanted to smoke. I introduced myself and made myself available to everyone who was interested in my comic book, my cartoon, or my message. I just made the most of it and made a point to have fun with the people that were there. I basically got high and socialized and it was a lot of fun!
And here’s another one for you: Early in my career, back in ’93, I was living in Atlanta and I had the opportunity to MC for a rap contest at a downtown club called the Phoenix; I was a rapper that no one knew and wasn’t made to feel very welcome. It was a rough crowd, the sort of crowd that had to check their guns at the door. I put my name in for the drawing to MC onstage and perform and so did my coworker as a ‘Plan B’ since he didn’t think that they would choose my name, since they didn’t recognize my rapper name. And guess what? They didn’t pick me, but they did pick him. So, he picked me up and tossed me up on the stage.
I’m going to be honest, I was definitely a little scared, but as soon as I started performing my pro-weed rap song, the crowd went crazy! I defied the odds and broke the rules, so that I would have the opportunity to put myself out there and MC in front of strangers.

As Captain Cannabis, what is the message that you are trying to convey to your audience?
This plant is our planet’s only hope. The large majority of the problems that have not been solved by either politicians and regulations can be solved with this plant. By increasing awareness, we can get restrictions out of the way. My main message to my audience is to ‘Wake the funk up!’ Ignorance is no longer an excuse. Educate yourself! It’s all about self-discovery and I try to empower people to learn about the plant on their own.
How would you advise someone who wants to join the industry?
Welcome aboard! What have you been waiting for? This is the most amazing journey you will ever embark upon in your lifetime.
What is a skill or trait that you think is necessary to make an impact in this industry?
You must be tactful because we are all being judged. The term I use for it is, ‘weedism.’ You’ve heard of racism, ableism, sexism, and ‘weedism’ falls alongside those same lines. I use it to describe the phenomenon in mainstream media that preaches that if you partake in this plant on any level, you are less intelligent than those who do not use the plant. So, use tack; Think before you speak. Everything you say can and will be used against you and it will bring us all down if you say the wrong thing. So, please think of that before you let emotions or anger make you say something that could later affect either you individually or the entire movement as a whole. Be a steward, be a lady/gentleman, and be a professional.

What is the most important thing for us to know now about the legal marijuana industry?
It’s in its infancy, it’s brand new! It has a long ways to go. Relying on the success of others is not enough. We need more people to be converted to join this economic, spiritual, and cultural revolution.
If Captain Cannabis needed a partner to help him with the green rush movement, what are his expectations from his ally?
A constitutional lawyer. I believe that this is the biggest failure of the movement. There’s a big constitutional movement going on; it’s stated and qualified as the Tea Party, but it’s really about aware, self-awareness, and knowing the importance of the condition for creating the wealth and abundance that is celebrated worldwide. If you are a person who advocates the constitution and are not a cannabis activist, then you are a hypocrite.
The person who is currently residing in the White House is said to be a constitutional lawyer, but he has done nothing to support the cannabis movement and hasn’t done what he said he would do. Yes, he has done more than any other president in history, but you would think that someone who wrote a book including the fact that he smoked weed, would have done more to clear regulations and restrictions on this plant. We need someone to step up and stand up for our rights to use this plant.
What is Captain Cannabis’ upcoming mission?
I fund my company, The Cosmic Crusaders LLC, with advertising and sales of my comic book. And from the funds I raise, this will allow me to serve my mission of distributing my comic book in the hands of as many people as possible and to spark that child-like passion and curiosity in each and every person and empower them to join the movement!
